ITG Conference on Speech Communication 2021

The 14th ITG Conference on Speech Communication was organized this year by Prof. Gerhard Schmidt and his team from the Chair of "Digital Signal Processing and System Theory" at Christian-Albrechts-Universität, Kiel in online format.

The conference presented 43 papers on digital signal processing in diverse topics such as speech processing, recognition and transmission. The diverse program was complemented by keynote lectures from academia and industry.

The IKS was involved in the scientific exchange with three contributions.

  • Sebastian Nagel presented his paper "On the Use of Additional Microphones in Binaural Cue Adaptation", which addresses new algorithms for spatial audio reproduction exploiting multiple microphone signals.
  • Stefan Kühl spoke about echo cancellation in IP-based communication systems. In his paper "Feedback Cancellation for IP-based Teleconferencing Systems", methods for suppressing acoustic feedback were discussed.
  • There was also a contribution by Florian Hilgemann on performance evaluation of digital ANC and hear-through systems in headphone and hearable applications.

The "Kiel Evening" - an evening with Kiel captain Jürgen Marth - was also hosted by Zoom and provided insights into the world of shipping and the Kiel Canal. The Gather.Town platform was used for informal exchange.

The next ITG Speech Communication Conference will be held in Aachen in 2023.
