April 20th/21st 2017 marked the start for a special cooperation with the Aachen Symphony Orchestra.
Conferences: HSCMA and ICASSP 2017
In spring we attended two conferences in the United States. Prof. Jax and three of his research assistants presented their latest research results on the HSCMA in San Francisco and the ICASSP in New Orleans.

The kick-off meeting on February 6th 2017 marked the start of an interesting cooperation between the Symphony Orchestra Aachen and the Institute of Communication Systems.
This Tuesday students were invited as part of the consultation days at the RWTH Aachen University to attend a lecture at the Institute. Dr. Christiane Antweiler gave a special lecture entitled "Speech in Bits and Bytes".
New publication of the book "Ingenieure als Manager"
At the end of the year, the text and exercise book "Ingenieure als Manager" by Dr.-Ing. Joachim Schläper appeared. This book was written in the context of his lecturing activities – as a book "from practice for practice".
Friedrich-Wilhelm Promotionspreis für Herrn Dr.-Ing. Moritz Beermann
Jedes Jahr wird der jeweils beste Promotionsabschluss jeder Fakultät der RWTH Aachen mit dem Friedrich-Wilhelm Preis ausgezeichnet. In diesem Jahr ging dieser Preis in der Fakultät Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik an Herrn Dr.-Ing. Moritz Beerman.
Visit of the Carl-Reuther-Berufskolleg
Pupils of the Carl-Reuther-Berufskolleg from Hennef visited the Institute to gather first impressions on "speech and audio signal processing".
Taster Studies for High-School Graduates
As part of the Taster Studies for high-school graduates, the Institute has invited to a quizz around the topic of "speech and audio signal processing".
