SILENce | Project Completion

The SILENce project addressed the growing noise burden caused by drones in urban and sensitive areas.

The goal was to develop concepts for active, sector-specific noise reduction and to demonstrate their technical feasibility. For this purpose, acoustic measurement campaigns were conducted with different drone types, high-resolution datasets were created, and analyzed using modern modeling methods.

In the project, commercially available drones were equipped with loudspeakers and microphones in order to carry out systematic acoustic measurements under laboratory conditions. The collected data were published on the Mobilithek and served as the basis for initial modeling and analyses of active, sector-specific noise reduction.

The results showed that targeted sound cancellation is, in principle, possible if certain framework conditions are met. Direct application or market readiness was not the project’s objective. The insights gained provide guidance for further initiatives and can contribute in the long term to reducing noise emissions and increasing the acceptance of drones, especially in sensitive environments.
