Master-Vortrag: Comparison of Conventional Digital Transmission Technology and Analog Modulo Block-Codes for Audio Signal Transmission

Digital transmission suffers from unavoidable quantization error, which limits the transmission quality even if the channel quality is increased. This limitation can be avoided if analog transmission is used instead. Analog transmission can be achieved using Analog Modulo Block codes (AMB), which employ linear matrix multiplication and a special non-linear modulo function.
In this thesis, a comparison between the performance of audio signal transmission using AMB codes and conventional digital transmission techniques is presented. AMB codes and the source coding technique used for audio transmission with AMB codes are first discussed, then two types of digital audio formats (lossy and lossless) are described, and selected examples of these formats, which will be used for comparison with AMB codes, are presented.
The quality metrics used to evaluate the transmission performance are then described, and criteria for fair performance comparison are shown. After that, the performance of audio signal transmission using AMB codes and digital transmission is compared, for both cases of transmitting speech signals and general audio signals.
