Abstract

We previously proposed movement-invariant beamforming (MIBF) as a binaural direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimator that incorporates head rotation information along the horizontal axis. We showed that including yaw head rotation information helps to resolve the front-back confusion problem and leads to a more robust DoA estimate during head movements. In this contribution, we extend MIBF by head rotation information along all three axes. We analyze how head rotations resolve cone-of-confusion (CoC) ambiguities through beampattern analysis and experiments on real data. We show that yaw rotations are most helpful to resolve front-back ambiguities and roll rotations are most helpful to resolve up-down ambiguities.
